The Problem
Studies show that by the time our children reach the age of 12, they may already be destined for a life of drug and alcohol abuse including the social hardships and criminal activity such a life entails. Some kids are able to navigate the problems faced in childhood and adolescence with the support of a caring family. Many others lack that structure to help guide them or an environment in which they feel comfortable sharing their struggles.

Decisions regarding drugs, alcohol and tobacco use can be some of the hardest to face for our young people, especially when introduced by influential peers. Many deal with difficult family situations and at times find themselves in neglectful or abusive situations.

The struggle for others is less traumatic, but can have lasting ill effects. Kids and teens are frequently burdened with an immense pressure to succeed academically, athletically or in numerous other endeavors. Others want nothing more than to ‘fit in’ but find that they are trapped in a continuous cycle of low self-esteem.

These problems are faced by most kids and can become overwhelming.
