Prevention
Prevention of substance abuse is more than a conversation; it’s a process that builds resiliency in children. FBRC believes this process starts in the home with parents communicating expectations to their children. It is then reinforced in the community by schools, religious organizations and extracurricular activities.
FBRC’s prevention programs are based on the idea that resilient children, those who are able to withstand difficult circumstances, are the least likely to use addictive substances. Our skilled youth prevention counselors lead classroom based curriculum programs, small group exercises and one-on-one sessions on school campuses across Fort Bend County. Students learn life skills including communication, healthy ways to manage stress, peer interactions, handling adversity and positive decision making. These are the building blocks of a resilient child who is far better prepared to make good choices in all matters – especially about drugs, alcohol and other high risk activities.

FBRC’s highly trained counselors give the hope of a life restored to individuals and families dealing with drug and alcohol addiction. For someone facing this disease, FBRC is a place to heal.
FBRC’s outpatient treatment program includes an intensive series of individual, family and group counseling sessions. Clients are guided towards recognition of their problems and receive help and support to attain personal responsibility in their new way of life.
Often, substance abuse tears families apart. The joy of family restoration and the knowledge that the cycle of addiction has broken is a daily celebration at FBRC.
FBRC outpatient treatment services are offered at both the Stafford and Rosenberg office locations. For those seeking help, FBRC provides a one-on-one assessment with a counselor, access to a large network of referral options, an individualized plan of action, individual and group counseling and hope for a brighter future.
Changing Our Community
FBRC leads the way in meeting individual and family substance abuse needs in our community. We like to think that FBRC is changing the community one person at a time, but what if we could shorten the timeline of community change from a generation to just a few years? That would be revolutionary and save countless lives.
That led our team to a new question – Can we take our model that successfully creates hope, joy, and a bright future for individuals and broadly replicate it to reduce substance abuse across the communities in which we live? Our answer – Why not?
Just like someone walking through recovery first has to identify that they have a problem with addiction, there are identifiable variables within every community that make youth substance abuse more likely. Ease of access to drugs and alcohol, perception of the risks associated with using, messaging in the media, and peer influence all are proven to increase adolescent usage.
These variables can only change when a community decides to shine a light on them and work together. FBRC is diligently building broad support to change youth substance use rates with the Fort Bend Community Prevention Coalition. This group includes representatives from local school districts, law enforcement agencies, healthcare providers, religious organizations, business leaders, and social service organizations working to change the environmental factors that lead to youth substance use.
